Maria Alicia Bocanegra's Obituary
Maria Alicia Bocanegra, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully on February 7, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 77. “Licha”, as she was called with great love by many, was born in Pharr, Texas on January 17, 1947 and was married to her adoring husband of 62 years, Celestino “Cele” Bocanegra. Licha and Cele worked and lived in California before settling in Pharr, where they raised their children, and later moved to Edinburg. The most important thing in Licha’s life was her family, and she was happy to travel long distances to visit her loved ones for weddings, birthdays, graduations, holidays, and births of new babies. She was treasured by so many and she touched so many lives, including many grandchildren whom she raised as if they were her own children. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Guadalupe and Clemente Sanchez, sister Thelma (Benito) Yañez, and brother Clemente Jr. (Celia) Sanchez, all of Pharr. She is survived by her husband, Celestino Bocanegra of Edinburg; daughter Esmeralda (Joseph) Jarvis of Mission, son Marcos (Dolores) Bocanegra of Winchester, California, and son Raul (Veronica) Bocanegra of Boerne, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, her sister-in-law, an aunt, and many more family members that she cherished. Licha was deeply loved, more than any words can ever express, and we will all miss her laughter, her stories, her cooking, and her love for living life to the fullest. An intimate, private ceremony will be held later this year to honor Licha’s wishes to rest forever on the shores of Lake Tahoe. Aurora Funeral Sam Houston of Pharr is in charge of arrangements.
