Lloyd Howard Glover Jr.'s Obituary
Lloyd Howard Glover, Jr. passed away Dec. 20, 2023 to be with his compassionate Lord. He is preceded in death by parents Lloyd and Mabel Glover, and brother Richard Glover. He is survived by his wife Cynthia of McAllen and daughters Miranda (Vanessa Glover) of Dallas, TX and Audra (Sean Dove) of Denver, CO, as well as his sister Judy (Larry Benningfield) of Granbury, TX.
Howard graduated from P.S.J.A. and attended Texas Technological College (Texas Tech University) and graduated from Pan American College (University of Texas at Pan American). He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, the 13-rouse club, and the Pan American Choir.
Before graduating in 1965 with a degree in physical education, he spent three years in the U.S. Army as a medic with the 78th artillery, 4th Armond Division in Germany. On his leave time he explored Europe, visited with his mother’s pen pal family in Scotland and took a tour to the former USSR.
His teaching career started at P.S.J.A. as a migrant and elementary physical education instructor and a special education physical education coach. He moved to Cotulla I.S.D. to coach freshman football and teach physical education and health. He then became head coach and athletic director at Progresso I.S.D. He then taught migrant physical education in Brownsville I.S.D. before ending his career at McAllen I.S.D. as an elementary physical education instructor.
During summer breaks he managed The Pharr Olympic Pool and taught many of the youngsters in area swimming. He was also in charge of the popular baby-parent learn to swim program.
Howard was a long-time member of the Pharr United Methodist Church where he served as administrative council president, served on many committees, helped in the food pantry, was a choir member, and a greeter and usher. After Pharr United Methodist Church closed its doors, he became a member of St Mark United Methodist Church in McAllen until his passing.
Howard always had a deer lease ready every deer season, which was a carry-over from many successful hunts with his father. He enjoyed following the P.S.J.A. football teams and the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Howard loved life and loved his family and will be missed.
The family will have visitation of cremated remains on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Aurora Funeral Home Sam Houston in Pharr, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. with a memorial service to begin at 11:15 am. Burial with military honors will take place at the RGV State Veterans Cemetery in Mission at 2:00 pm.
