JULIA GARZA's Obituary
San Juan - Julia Garza, age 83, of San Juan, Texas, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 in a McAllen hospital following a brief illness. She was born on April 12, 1934 in Lockport, IL, daughter of Gumecindo & Martina Rodriguez who in 1914 immigrated to Illinois from the city of Aguascalientes in the state of Aguascalientes, Mexico. She married Leonel Garza Sr. from Donna, Texas in the spring of 1953 in Chicago, IL. Although Julia was born and raised in Illinois, in 1955 she moved with her Texas husband to the Rio Grande Valley and had been a resident of San Juan for over 62 years. Julia was a longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan, Texas. Julia worked for the PSJA school district for over 10 years and retired from Warnock's Hat Shop in Pharr, TX with over 26 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, arts and crafts and especially spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nellie Mirelez; four brothers, John Rodriguez, Paul Rodriguez, Philip Rodriguez & Jesse Rodriguez. Julia is survived by her husband, Leonel Garza Sr. of San Juan; 3 sons and their wives, Leonel, Jr. & Lupe Garza of League City, TX; Richard Garza of San Juan, TX., Tommy & Lorie Garza of Round Rock, TX. Her 6 grandchildren include, Julie Gore, Michael (wife Shellene) Garza, Jason (wife Lindsay) Huerta, Richard Garza, Jr. and Cleresa & Eloy Garza. Her 5 great-grandchildren include 3 girls, Taylor, Payton & Avery Gore and 2 boys Brandon & Maddox Garza. A Catholic Rite of Christian Burial (Funeral Mass) will be held today, Friday, July 14 at 10 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in San Juan, TX. The Rite of Committal (Burial) will immediately follow at Roselawn Cemetery - 1201 S. Main in McAllen, TX. Services are entrusted to Aurora Funeral Home Sam Houston of Pharr, TX.
