JUAN REYES's Obituary
Juan Z. Reyes, 88 years of age, entered eternal rest on December 22, 2021 to join his wife in Heaven. He was surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his home. Born in Pinos, Zacatecas, Mexico to Luis Reyes and Marcelina Zapata on July 1, 1933, his life is an example of an immigrant success story. As a young man, he married and emigrated to the U.S. with the help of his employer of 18 years, Glick Twins. He began as farm laborer and eventually learned the trade of canvas fabricator. In 1973, he started his own business, Reyes Tarps. His children worked alongside where he instilled in them the values and ethics of his honesty and hard work. His customers in South Texas and throughout Mexico grew to know him as “El Maestro”, a name he endeared with honor and respect.
His faith and love for his family were the driving force that carried him through his fulfilling life. He shared his passion for nature, fishing, hunting, boating and traveling with his family.
With his wife, he served as Eucharistic Minister for countless years at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and at The Basilica of Our Lady of Sand Juan del Valle. They also volunteered and served their community in numerous other ministries.
Left to cherish his memory are his seven children: Juan (Marcy) Reyes Jr., Dora Ester (Arnoldo) Mata, Mary Lou Martinez, Diana (Fred+) Solis, Jose Luis Reyes, Alfredo Reyes and Mario Alberto Reyes. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Emma Gloria Reyes, his parents Luis and Marcelina Reyes, and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation and viewing will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021 from 1-9 PM with a 7PM rosary at Aurora Funeral Home at 706 W. Sam Houston in Pharr. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday December 28, at 10AM at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church at 122 W. Hawk St. in Pharr. Burial will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Garden in Pharr.
