Henry Max Friedl's Obituary
Henry Max Friedl was born in the McAllen Hospital on January 23, 1937, to Henry Friedl and
Stephanie Krenmueller Friedl. He died peacefully at home July 15, 2023. He had a sister, Maria
Magdalena (Lanie) who was 12 years his senior. He attended PSJA schools, graduating with the
Class of 1956 and attended Pan American College. Henry never married.
Henry was a farmer like his father, professional photographer, and assistant to Lanie in her
flower shop. He lived at the same location at Ridge Rd and Morningside Rd, later Cesar Chavez
Rd, all his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
Henry enjoyed local history, coin collecting, pursuing his pilot’s license, travel, and taking
photos for various local clubs. Henry had a theatrical flair and a dry sense of humor as
evidenced by the witty stories, photos, cartoons and writings he shared with friends. He had a
soft heart for animals so that he was mostly a vegetarian, except for an occasional McDonald’s
filet of fish. His rescue dog, Marco Polo, slept under his bed to the end.
Henry took great pride in caring for the family plot at Roselawn Cemetery. He made sure there
were always flowers at his parents’ and sister’s graves, changing them out with the seasons and
holidays.
After turning 80, Henry was helped by Juan Morales, who was his handyman, driver and
companion. Dr. Audrey Jones went above and beyond while caring for Henry, getting him to
agree with her medical recommendations. In his final days Judy, Sylvia, Vidalia, Maggie, and
Crystal kept him comfortable.
Graveside services for Henry Max Friedl will be held at Roselawn Cemetery, Wednesday, July
19, 2023, at 11 am with Pastor Greg Lorenz, St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Aurora
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Henry had a soft spot in his heart for animals.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Palm Valley Animal Society.
