Charles Armond Isom's Obituary
Charles A. (Charlie) Isom passed from this life Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the age of 91 years.
Born September 3, 1932 in Dallas, Texas, he and his wife Jill have lived in Pharr, Texas since 1995.
Charlie served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged September 3, 1954.
He married Virjillia (Jill) Ann Palmer in Dallas on September 2, 1955, and they promptly moved to Austin, Texas where Charlie studied at The University of Texas at Austin, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1958. He went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) in Austin, Texas in February 1958. Early in his career with the telephone company, he worked in several towns in South Texas. In 1963 he was promoted to District Plant Superintendent in Victoria, Texas.
From there, he moved to AT&T in New York City. Later, he was promoted to Division Plant Manager in Houston, then moved to Oklahoma City and to Tulsa, where he was responsible for telephone installation and repair for customers in Oklahoma. Charlie and Jill moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas after retirement in 1991. Later when they moved to Pharr, Texas they joined the First Baptist Church in Pharr.
Charlie served as a Deacon and as the church Finance Chairman for many years.
Charlie and Jill traveled extensively throughout the world. He was an avid bird hunter and golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years (Jill); his children: Charles William Isom II (Penny),
Steven Palmer Isom (Sheryl), and Sharon Rene Clark (Dan); his eight grandchildren: Rebecca Slay, Nicholas Isom, Charles Isom III, Nathan Isom, Caleb Clark, Autumn Bartruff, Jake Clark, and Sam Clark; ten great-grandchildren; and others who lovingly refer to him as “Papa”.
Charlie was a Christian man who lived his life to the highest moral and ethical standards.
He is described by those who knew him as a man whose life exemplified kindness, generosity, and wisdom. Services will be held on November 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Tropic Star, 1401 S. Cage Blvd, Pharr, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
