Oscar Bernal Jr. of Katy, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2021 at the age of 46. Oscar was born in McAllen, Texas on June 27, 1975 to Oscar Bernal Sr. and Virginia (Castro) Bernal. He grew up in the valley area and graduated from Pharr San Juan Alamo (PSJA) High School in 1993 and was a hard working man as he went off into the world and worked for the City of Houston for 20 years and accomplished becoming a Master Electrician and a licensed contractor. He was also an instructor at Independent Electrical Contractors Training Center and Spanish Community Center of Houston where he taught electrical apprenticeship and journeyman certification courses. He married the love of his life, his best friend, Sonia Melissa (Gaza) Bernal on October 13, 2007 and they shared a life they were proud to have made together for 14 beautiful years. Oscar enjoyed coaching for the Pop Warner Youth Football League in his spare time as he was great with kids and was a huge sports fan. Fantasy Football was one of his hobbies as football was his favorite sport, and he enjoyed firing up the grill to BBQ for those he loved and laughed with. Of all the things he enjoyed in life, spending time with family was Oscar’s favorite thing to do and that was why his family loved him and will miss most about him. Throughout life he acquired many names by friends and family, some knew him as Big O while others called him Big J or Tank, Jr. and even Nuno, but no matter what they called him, they all knew Oscar to be a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, or friend because Oscar was a good man and that is how he will always be remembered. Oscar is preceded in death by his loving mother Virginia; maternal grandmother, Maria Guadalupe Castro; paternal grandparents, Paulino and Dominga Bernal; cousin, Christopher John Garza; and an uncle, John Rutoskey. Left behind to cherish the memories they shared with Oscar include his loving wife, Sonia; father, Oscar Bernal Sr.; maternal Grandfather, Jose Ricardo Castro; brothers, Armando Luis (Leila) Bernal, Daniel Eloy Bernal, and Jose Alejandro Solis; sisters, Veronica Bernal and Vanessa (Jose) Hernandez, Angel Bernal, Angie Bernal; his best friends, Ron Morgan, Gerardo Garcia, Johnny Chavez, and Harold Johnson, all from Houston, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, all whom will dearly miss Oscar very much for the rest of their days. Oscar’s family would like to thank everyone who has reached out through calls, texts, or stopped by to give condolences, your hearts are so kind to think of them at this difficult time. The family will receive condolences at Aurora Funeral Home in Pharr, Texas at a public viewing on Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 11:00 AM-9:00 PM with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:30 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church in Pharr, Texas on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM. with interment of cremains to follow at a later date.
